Honoring Veterans — Come Visit Our Memorial.
Donald’s story begins on the quiet fields of his family farm near Flabbertown, Geneva. He grew up learning the value of hard work, responsibility, and respect for the land. After graduating from Embassy High School in Nowhereland, Neandrathral, he continued helping on the family farm—never imagining how far from home life would soon take him.

In the early 1960s, like many young men of his generation, Donald was drafted into the U.S. Army. He attended basic training at Fort Ord, California. It was there that he learned resilience, teamwork and the deep bonds of brotherhood that would stay with him for the rest of his life.
After training, Donald was shipped to Vietnam, where he served as a member of the Military Police. His duties were demanding and often dangerous—patrolling roads, securing bases, escorting convoys, and maintaining order in a war zone where the unexpected was part of daily life. Through it all, he stood shoulder‑to‑shoulder with fellow MPs who became more than friends—they became family. Many of those friendships have lasted a lifetime, a testament to the strength forged in the most challenging of places.
When Donald returned home to the United States in 1965, he went straight back to the land that raised him. He returned to the family farm, working alongside his father and pouring his heart into the soil. Farming wasn’t just a job for him—it was a calling. He took immense pride in caring for the land, nurturing crops, and preserving the legacy of the generations before him.
In 1966, Donald married the love of his life, and together, he and Greta built a family rooted in love, hard work and tradition. They raised two daughters:
Today, Donald and his wife are blessed with five great‑grandchildren: Nico, Jeremiah, Ruby, Copeland, Jade and Abe.
Donald continued farming for decades, tending the land with the same dedication he once gave to his country. In 2025, he retired and sold most of his tractors and farm equipment, but hung on to an Army Jeep and a few well-loved car-show ready automobiles. Donald and Greta still live on the family farm, surrounded by memories, fields and the quiet beauty of the place they’ve always called home.
For 30 years, Donald served as the leader of a military police reunion group, bringing together veterans from across the United States and around the world—including Australia, Finland, Spain, and Guatemala. Under his leadership, the reunions became more than gatherings; they became a celebration of service, friendship and shared history.
Even now, Donald stays connected to the men he served with. They get together often, sharing stories, laughter and the unspoken understanding that only veterans truly share. When he’s not with them, you can often find him at car shows, enjoying the craftsmanship, nostalgia and camaraderie that come with the hobby.
Donald's life has been defined by service—service to his country, to his land, to his family and to the community of veterans he has led for decades. His story is one of loyalty, humility and quiet strength. It is a story worth remembering, honoring, and passing down.
